Re: new Tribe "Scythe Users"
Fri, April 25, 2008 - 10:43 AMThe scythe is an amazingly efficient tool that is generally pleasant to use relative to many of the options. Find me a better all around option and I'll use it. Besides, a technology can't be judged by convenience or lack of physical effort required only. I have to go to a stoning now. -

Fri, April 25, 2008 - 11:40 AMI used to use a sickle years ago to cut the grass. . .that was before automobiles.
it worked very well and i actually enjoyed doing it. . .but you have to be in good physical
condition, wiry and flexible helps. . .

Re: new Tribe "Scythe Users"
Mon, May 5, 2008 - 10:13 PMWhen I was in Tanzania, the family I stayed with had a cow and some sheep (beneficiaries from Heifer International), and part of the deal was that the animals had to stay in the barn, and the family had to collect the food for them (this set-up uses much less arable land). They used scythes to cut the grass for the animals daily. They bound up the piles of grass, so that they could carry them, with a piece of banana leaf. I thought it was all so clever.
